Sweet Music
Q. What can live musicians add to a civil ceremony and what type of music would you recommend?
A. Steve Groves says: Whilst it isn't a necessity, live music can add the perfect touch to a civil ceremony. There's usually a period of 20 to 30 minutes while guests are assembled and waiting for the bride to enter and live music during this period will keep your family and friends entertained and help them relax. Music can then be provided for the entrance of the bride, during the signing of the register (this usually takes around 10 minutes) and as the newlyweds exit.
When it comes to choosing a musician, it entirely depends on the style you want for your day. There are some fantastic string quartets, harpists, violinists, Spanish guitarists and classical vocalists available, all of whom can bring a really special atmosphere to your ceremony. |

Dance Fever
Q. My fiancé and I are really nervous about the first dance. Do you have any advice on what we can do?
A. Steve Groves says: The first thing to remember about the first dance is that it's not obligatory.
The prospect of dancing in front of all your friends and family can be daunting, and there's no rule stating that you have to put yourself through it. However, it can provide a nice focal point for the start of the evening party.
The tried and tested approach is to slow dance for a verse or two, then make sure the DJ or band invites your guests to join you on the dance floor.
An alternative and increasingly popular option thanks to the success of programmes like Strictly Come Dancing, is to learn a routine. You could waltz to Moon River, jive to Crazy Little Thing Called Love or put together a customised routine to really impress your friends and family. It's totally up to you!
